Daniel Bannon, Caleb Eiguren sign on to four-year baseball schools

A pair of McCook Community College baseball players, who were prominent top-of-the order guys, have signed on with four-year schools according to MCC Coach Jon Olsen. Daniel Bannon has signed on with Division I Jackson State in Mississippi, and Caleb Eiguren will play at NAIA Mid America Nazarene, an NAIA School in Olathe, Kan.

"Both of these guys worked hard to earn what they got, and I just want to say congratulations to both of them as well as best of luck moving forward in their baseball and academic career," said Olsen.

Bannon is a 5-6 infielder from Sydney, Australia who batted .407 in 51 games this season with five home runs and 51 RBIs. He scored 66 runs and stole 18 bases.

He finished his career playing in 108 games and scoring 143 runs, with 175 hits, 18 homers, 103 RBIs, 31 stolen bases and 279 total bases. He compiled a .423 batting mark while at MCC, had a.496 on-base average and slugged .674.

"Daniel was one of the best offensive players in the country over the last two years, hit for average, scored a ton of runs in his time here, one of the most decorated players at McCook," said Olsen.

He was an All-American his freshman year, and a preseason All-American this past year as well as being named Freshman of the year in Region IX in 2021, and first team all-region both years.

"He set numerous school records, and was just a great player," Olsen said.

Eiguren, 6-3, from Broomfield High School in Colorado was the starting catcher for the past three years including the Covid-19 shortened 2020 spring.

This season he batted .384 with one home run and 28 RBIs.

For his career he played in 117 games, scored 71 times, had 133 hits, 21 doubles, four home runs and 80 runs driven in. He was a career .342 hitter while at MCC with a .396 on-base average and a .427 slugging mark.

"Caleb has been a great guy to have in our program, he is everything a catcher needs to be – a great leader, a good defender," Olsen said. "And on top of that he was an excellent offensive catcher, he will be greatly missed behind the plate for us."
