MCC Men open season with loss at Laramie County CC

CHEYENNE, Wyo. -- The Laramie County Community College men effectively seized the game late in the first half with a 16-0 run over the final 4:32 of the first half and went on to an 88-66 win over McCook Community College Friday.

"We had too many bad stretches tonight in bad times," said MCC Coach Jacob Brandl.

MCC hit a jumper with 4:32 remaining until halftime to pull within 31-30, but the Golden Eagles stretched the lead to 47-30 at intermission and never looked back.

"We have to learn how to stop runs. We were down 31-30 and we have some bad fouls on key guys that made us sub and that led to their 16-0 run," Brandl said. "The 18-6 foul-deficit in the first half really hurt us and I felt like took us out of a rhythm."

MCC shot 37.3 percent from the field, made eight of 27 from beyond the 3-point line (29.6 percent) and made seven of 14 free throws.

Laramie County shot 55.6 percent from the field, shot 45.8 on 24 3-pointers, and made nine of 14 free throws (63 percent).

"The part that was probably the most disheartening in this game was the lack of attention to details," Brandl said. "We just gave up too many open shots and never got in great position defensively."

Madit Lueeth (sophomore, Edmonton Alberta, Canada) led MCC with 13 points. Martel Evans (freshman, Omaha Creighton Prep) had 10 points along with Noah Boyed (freshman, Castries, St. Lucia).

Sophomore guard Trey Summers (Greeley, Colo.) led MCC with nine rebounds, Lamine Ndione (sophomore, Marseille, France) picked up eight. MCC held a 41-37 rebound edge with 17 coming in the offensive end.

"I know what the score said but I thought we competed," Brandl said. "Any time you get 17 offensive rebounds shows that you are competing."

MCC, 0-1, will travel to Torrington, Wyo. Saturday for a game against Eastern Wyoming.

"Tomorrow is a new day and I believe in our group, and we will see what we got in us," Brandl said.

Laramie County improves to 1-0 on the season, they will host North Platte Saturday.

LCCC will travel to McCook Dec. 3 for a rematch in the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center.
