MCC men win by 24 on the road at Eastern Wyoming

TORRINGTON, Wyo. — The McCook Community College men's basketball team picked up a road win Saturday, handing an 88-64 loss to Eastern Wyoming.

"I was really proud of our groups' response tonight," said MCC Coach Jacob Brandl.

MCC built a 39-31 at the half and opened things up in the second half.

"It's an easy game when you make shots, so it was nice to see some of our shooters get going but the ball moved tonight," Brandl said. "We didn't let it die on our side and used the whole floor."

MCC shot 51.4 percent from the field, sank eight of 24 3-pointers (30.8) and made eight of nine free throws (88.9 percent). MCC also held a 31-19 rebound edge in the game.

Sophomore Trey Summers (Greeley, Colo.) led a quartet of MCC players in double-figures. Summers scored 21 points and made all three of his 3-pointers, both his free throws and made eight of 11 shots from the field.

Freshman Martel Evans (Omaha Creighton Prep) scored 16 points. Madit Lueeth, (Edmonton Alberta), a sophomore transfer from Southern Idaho scored 15 points. Simon Akena (Stockholm, Sweden) a sophomore transfer from Three Rivers College scored 14 points and led MCC with eight rebounds.

Freshman Noah Boyed (Castries, St. Lucia) made all four of his shots and scored eight points and Lamine Ndione, (Marseille, France) picked up five rebounds.

The Lancers made 46.6 of their field goal attempts, went 0-for-10 from the 3-point line, and 10 of 20 from the free-throw line.

"Defensively we were just really good all night I thought their shooters were never comfortable which was a big turnaround from last night," Brandl said. "However, we still need to eliminate unnecessary gambles, but effort as a whole was there again."

MCC goes to 1-1 on the season and will travel to Kansas this week for three games starting Tuesday at Dodge City then weekend games at Goodland in the Northwest Kansas Technical College Classic. MCC takes on Colby Friday at 6 p.m. and NWKTC Saturday at 4 p.m.

"The win is nice and obviously needed but we have a huge week ahead of us that starts with Dodge City on the road, an extremely good and tough basketball team," Brandl said.
