
MCC Women win on road against Rattlers 64-56
LA JUNTA, Colo. – The McCook Community College women went on the road Friday and picked up a Region IX South win over Otero Junior College 64-56.
"This is a tough place to play so it's great to get the win here," said MCC Coach Brandon Pritchett. "I thought we defended well for most of the night."
The two teams were tied at 15 after the first period and MCC took a halftime lead 30-28. In the second half MCC stretched the lead to 42-37 after three quarters and held a 22-19 edge in the fourth quarter.
"In the fourth quarter Otero did a good job of crashing the offensive side of things," Pritchett said. "We have to finish plays better, but we did enough tonight to come out on top."
Statistics beyond scoring were not available.
Sophomore Carla Torrubia Cano (Melilla, Spain) paced the MCC offense with 16 points. Maite Lara Garcia (sophomore, Sant Joan Despi, Spain) scored 13 and sophomore Vanessa Jurewicz (Stockholm, Sweden) was credited with 12 points.
"I thought Carla play well for us, she was aggressive offensively and was able to get to the paint and finish," Pritchett said.
Otero falls to 6-13 on the season and 0-2 in in Region IX South.
MCC improves to 11-9, and 2-2 in the south region standings.
Next up is a Saturday match at Trinidad State Junior College (4-11) at 3 p.m.
"It's a quick turnaround for us as we get out minds set on playing Trinidad tomorrow," Pritchett said
