Trinidad State women vault past MCC with 68-53 win

TRINIDAD, Colo. – The Trinidad State Lady Trojans downed McCook Community College Saturday in Region IX south play, 68-53. The win vaults Trinidad State past MCC into third place in the standings.

Leading 17-13 at the first quarter break, Trinidad outscored MCC 24-18 in the second period and 19-10 in the third period.

Taryn Lindsey, (redshirt freshman, Fountain, Colo.) led MCC with 19 points. She went four-for-eight from the field and made 11 of 13 free throws to go along with six rebounds. Freshman Gemma Gruettner Bacoul (Berlin, Germany) scored 11 points and led MCC with seven rebounds.

MCC turned the ball over 26 times.

MCC shot 40 percent from the field, went 0-for-five at the 3-point line, and made 17 of 27 free throws (63.0 percent).

Trinidad was 34-8 percent from the field, made seven of 22 3-point shots and went 13 of 17 from the free-throw line (76.6 percent.). The Lady Trojans outrebounded MCC 48-38.

Trinidad State goes to 5-5 in the south standings and 11-17 overall

MCC goes to 4-5 and 12-17 overall. The team will wrap up the regular season Tuesday at home for sophomore recognition night at 5:30 p.m. against Northeastern Junior College (3-5, 9-17).
