MCC golfers break school record; tie Lancers for tourney title

TORRINGTON, Wyo. – The McCook Community College golf team shot a team-record 282 Friday and came back to tie the host school for the Eastern Wyoming tournament title.

"It was a fun day on the course and a school record six-under par score," said MCC Coach Tyler Loop. "They played and competed very well today and so did Eastern, in the end it was a tie for first place."

The Lancers began the day with a one-shot lead over MCC, but MCC was able to come back and tie Eastern Wyoming for the tournament title with rounds of 289 and 282. Halfway through the Region IX fall schedule both teams have traded wins in the first two weeks and shared the title Friday.

"We knew it was going to take a good score and I'm really proud of the way they performed both days." Loop said. "Even though this wasn't an outright win, we are going to celebrate it as one."

Otero Junior College shot a 297 Friday and came back to tie Northeastern Junior College for third place. They were 31 shots back of the leaders. Central Wyoming finished in fifth and Lamar sixth.

Ethan Gough (sophomore, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa) shot a two-under par 70 Friday to finish in second place for individual honors with a two-day 141. He finished two shots back of George Cordall of Eastern Wyoming.

Sophomore Brayden Dahl (Outer West Durban, South Africa) fired a three-under 69 Friday and finished fourth with a 143.

Jordan Bingham (sophomore, South Jordan, Utah) had back-to-back days of 73 and 72 to finish at one-over par. His 145 was good for a sixth-place tie. Freshman Cade Cryer (Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa) finished 11th with a two-day 148.

After posting an 80 on Thursday, sophomore Cayden Wynne (Lincoln) came back with a one-under par 71 to finish the tournament at seven over. He finished with a 151. Spencer Wishon (sophomore, Oberlin, Kan.) had rounds of 77 and 78 and finished at 155.

Competing as an individual Payton Craw (sophomore, McCook) shot an 80 on Thursday and a 78 on Friday.

The Region IX field travels to Sterling, Colo. on Thursday for the Northeastern Junior College tournament. The first day will be played at SkyRanch with Friday rounds at Riverview.
