MCC golfers unable to overcome poor putting; finish second at Otero meet
LA JUNTA, Colo. – The McCook Community College golf team was unable to solve the greens at the Otero Junior College tournament and finished 11 shots behind Eastern Wyoming.
"Our putting woes continued today, and we finished with a 5-over team score, and 6-over for the tournament," said MCC Coach Tyler Loop.
Eastern Wyoming won the tournament with a 5-under par 555, MCC was second at 566 and Otero third with a 576.
Sophomore Ethan Gough (Pietermaritzburg, South Africa) shot a 68 Friday and finished with a 2-under 138 to tie for fourth place. Jordan Bingham (sophomore, South Jordan, Utah) was 2-over for the tournament shooting back-to-back rounds of 71. He tied for 10th place.
Sophomore Brayden Dahl (Outer West Durban, South Africa) carded a 3-over 143 to finish in a tie for 12th place. Freshman Cade Cryer (Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa) shot rounds of 68 and 76 to finish at 4-over par.
Cayden Wynne (sophomore, Lincoln) was 13-over, shooting rounds of 78 and 75. Sophomore Payton Craw (McCook) posted a 78 and a 77 to finish at 15-over.
"It was a long week and not our best golf all week, so we'll need to regroup and refocus for our final region tournament next week in Lamar," said Loop.
MCC will close out the Region IX portion of the fall schedule Thursday and Friday at Lamar, Colo.
The team is scheduled to host one more non-region tournament when it hosts the Nebraska Junior College Classic at Gothenburg Oct. 13-14.
