MCC Volleyball signs Amherst setter Kayten Hagan

The McCook Community College volleyball team has announced the signing of a Nebraska recruit for the 2023-2024 season.

Kayten Hagan, 5-7 setter from Amherst High School signed her letter of intent Tuesday.

"We are so excited to have Kayten on our team for next season," said MCC Volleyball Coach Hayley Kobza. "She knows what it takes to win, and she knows what it takes to lead a team."

Hagan was named third-team all-conference setter her senior season and set the school's career assist record with 1,236. She played in 326 sets in her career, had 443 digs and 81 serving aces.

"Not only will she help lead our team offensively, but we believe she will help be a great leader coming in as freshman," said Kobza.

Hagan said she choose MCC because it felt like home.

"The girls on the team were so welcoming and I loved the atmosphere of the community," she said. "I'm excited being a part of something bigger than myself and bettering myself as a volleyball player."

In recalling her high school career, she was a freshman when the team was rebuilding and went 10-17 but followed that up with a district final her sophomore year when the Broncos earned a trip to the state tournament for the first time in 15 years. This year the team broke the school record for wins, finished 27-8, and was the first Amherst team to win a game at the state tournament.

"Finishing fourth at state was a testament to the team and our hard work to prove we were capable of bigger things," she said.

She said her parents been her biggest supporters through everything and they "always push me to better myself."
