MCC golfers finish fourth to open the season
STERLING, Colo. – The McCook Community College golf team had a 15-shot improvement Friday over the first round but finished in fourth place in the Northeastern Junior College Tournament.
After shooting a 290 Friday, MCC finished 39 shots back of first-place Eastern Wyoming, 20 shots back of Central Wyoming and 13 shots back of Otero Junior College.
"We had a much better day today," said MCC Coach Tyler Loop. "It was a fourth place finish but a 15 stroke improvement and a score more consistent with what I'd expect from this team."
Matt Grimonprez, Villenuave-d'ascq, France, posted MCC's low score for the tournament shooting a two-over 145. That was good for ninth place.
Everett Schroeder, Sheboygan, Wis., had rounds of 73 and 74 to finish at four-over and was tied for 12th.
Zachary Woods, Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia shot MCC's low round of the tournament with a 71 on Friday to finish at 150 after shooting a 79 on Thursday.
Chance Gambini, Las Vegas, Nev. Finished at 10-over with rounds of 80 and 73. Andrew Brown, Wollongong, Australia, was 15-over for the two-days in Sterling and carded rounds of 80 and 73.
"There's still a lot of improvement needed but this was the first tournament for an all-freshman team so it's not too concerning," said Loop.
Next up on the Region IX schedule is a Thursday-Friday meet at Riverton, Wyo., hosted by Central Wyoming Community College
