MCC Softball goes 0-2 in Friday games at Cisco College Invite

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The McCook Community College softball team lost a pair of games Friday at the Cisco College Invite losing to Temple College 8-2 and then dropping a contest to Western Oklahoma State College, 10-3.

Temple College goes to (9-4), the Western Oklahoma State College Pioneers go to 2-0 and MCC goes to 1-3.

On Saturday, the MCC schedule starts with a 10 a.m. game against Cisco College followed at 2:30 p.m. against Odessa College.

Temple College 8, McCook CC 2: -- Temple took a 5-1 lead in the first inning and never trailed, adding a run in the second, fourth and sixth innings.

MCC scored its first run in the sixth inning on a two-out single by Cassidy Fife (freshman, Provo, Utah), followed by a Leopard error and an RBI-double from freshman Sydney Erlandson (freshman, Woodbury, Minn.)

Taylor Thein (sophomore, West Branch, Iowa) led off the seventh with a home run for the final run of the game.

MCC had six hits in the game and four errors.

Paige Smith (freshman Perth, Australia) started in the pitching circle and went two innings, Avery O'Neil (sophomore, Ellsworth, Wis.) pitched the third and freshman Tyler Mooring (Santa Clara, Utah) finished the game out. MCC pitching allowed four earned runs, nine hits, and seven walks while striking out three.

Western OK. ST. 8, McCook CC 1: -- The Pioneers broke up a 3-3 game with a five-run fourth inning and added single runs in the fifth and sixth inning.

MCC took a 1-0 lead in the first. Alexis Cortez (sophomore, Arvada, Colo.) led off the game with a double and scored when freshman Madisyn Simms (freshman, Port Moody, British Columbia) followed with a double of her own.

After Western Oklahoma tied the game in the bottom of the first, MCC went back on top in the third inning when Cortez singled and with two out sophomore Rae VanMilligan (Marion, Iowa) doubled her home and Ashland Baca (sophomore, Byers, Colo.) made it 3-1 with an RBI-double.

Anna Wilcox (sophomore, Victoria, British Columbia) started in the circle and went three innings allowing three earned runs. Freshman Paige Smith came on to pitch the final three frames and allowed seven hits and three earned runs.

Three MCC players had two hits each in Cortez, Sydney Erlandson, and Nevaeh Ogden (freshman, Littleton, Colo.).
