MCC women lose third straight with 74-39 setback

HOBBS, N.M. – The McCook Community College women lost their third straight game Sunday, dropping the final game of the New Mexico Junior College classic to Casper College 74-39.

Casper broke open a 2-2 score 3:24 into the game and went on a 17-4 over the final six minutes of the first quarter to lead 19-6 and put the game away with a 19-8 advantage in the second quarter, leading at the half 38-14.

MCC shot just 25.5 percent from the field for the game, made one of 14 shots from the 3-point arc (7.1 percent) and 14 of 19 from the free-throws line (73.7 percent). The Lady Indians were outscored in the paint 40-18 and turned the ball over 17 times.

Casper shot 48.4 percent from the field, made six of 16 3-pointers (37.5 percent), went six of nine from the charity stripe (66.7 percent) and outrebounded MCC 45-19.

Sophomore Gemma Gruettner Bacoul (Berlin, Germany) led MCC with 13 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Audra Vine (Thornton, Colo.) added eight points. Noa Iglesias Chorda (sophomore, Barcelona, Spain) picked up five rebounds.

The T-Birds close out the semester at 11-4.

MCC winds up the pre-holiday portion of the schedule at 7-7. The Lady Indians return home for a Jan. 6 game in the Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference, taking on Central Community College at 2 p.m.

MCC won the previous meeting between these two teams in Columbus on Nov. 21, 71-62.
