MCC Volleyball wins two at home tournament

The McCook Community College volleyball team won twice Friday on the opening day of the MCC Labor Day weekend tournament. MCC picked up a 3-1 win over Frank Phillips College of Texas and a 3-0 win over Dodge City Community College.

"Overall, it was a good day, we had a lot of players get on the court for us," said MCC Coach Hayley Kobza. "A great way to start our tournament."

The coach tried out two different offenses Friday and was pleased with the result.

"Both of them went well and that can be a nice perk for us moving forward to have two lineups that we can use," Kobza said.

Sophomore Greta Bolognini, sophomore defensive specialist from Bergamo, Italy paced MCC on the defensive side in both matches picking up 43 digs on the day.

"I thought Greta Bolognini played really great defense not only with how consistent she played but coming up with some exciting digs to spark us," Kobza said.

MCC improves to 6-4 on the season.

The tournament concludes Saturday with MCC taking on Fort Scott Community College at 2 p.m. and Garden City Community College at 6 p.m.
