MCC Volleyball splits matches in Texas tourney

GAINESVILLE, Texas – McCook Community College split a pair of volleyball matches Friday on the opening day of the North Central Texas College Invitational. MCC downed the hosts 3-1 the dropped a 1-3 decision to No. 12 Blinn College.

"It was a good day of volleyball during both matches," said MCC Coach Hayley Kobza. "We're still needing to work on our consistency and our first five points of every set."

MCC goes to 9-6 on the season and continue in the tournament Saturday taking on Hill College at 9 a.m. and Cisco College at 1 p.m.

McCook CC 3, North Central Texas College 1: MCC won 25-19, 17-25, 26-24 and 25-16 sending the Lady Lions to 8-8 on the year.

Freshman Romina Castro (Cochabamba, Bolivia) had a double-double with 11 kills, 14 digs and two assist blocks. Jordan Duzenack (sophomore, Loveland, Colo.) was credited with 10 kills and two assist blocks. Sophomore Fernanda Merancio (Lamar, Colo.) had nine kills and three assist blocks.

Sophomore Gabby Caskey (Ogallala) had nine kills in the middle with three assist blocks and an ace. Gracen Tuttle (sophomore, Ogallala) had seven assist blocks and two kills.

Freshman Kayten Hagan (Amherst H.S.) led MCC with 23 assists, added seven digs and an ace. Jessie Jerome (sophomore Rawlins, Wyo.) had 17 assists, eight kills, three assist blocks and an ace.

Greta Bolognini (sophomore, Parkview Christian, Lincoln, Neb.) led MCC with 15 digs and had three assists. Freshman Caylin Barnett (Southwest H.S.) added 11 digs and sophomore Emerie Rios (Sterling, Colo.) had two digs.

Blinn College 3, McCook CC 1: The Buccaneers improve to 18-1 on the year, ranking 12th in the latest NJCAA Division I volleyball rankings with the 25-22, 22-25, 23-25, 25-15 win.

Bolognini led MCC with 13 digs, Barnett had seven digs and one ace.

Jerome had 16 assists, 10 digs, six kills and two assist blocks. Hagan also had 16 assists and was credited with nine digs.

Caskey had seven kills, five assist blocks and two aces. Tuttle had five kills, two assist blocks and a solo block.

Merancio led the attack with 10 kills and had four assist blocks. Martinez Castro was credited with seven kills, four digs and two solo blocks. Duzenack had three kills and three digs. Freshman Rowan Tribelhorn (Yuma, Colo.) had one kills.
