MCC Volleyball wins twice in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Texas – The McCook Community College volleyball team wrapped up its second straight 3-1 weekend tournament performance with a pair of wins Saturday over Texas schools in the North Central Texas College Invitational.

"It was a great way to end our trip in Texas," said MCC Coach Hayley Kobza. "There was a lot of great things from a lot of people."

MCC swept Hill College and Cisco College 3-0 Saturday with the only loss of the weekend coming in four sets on Friday to No. 12 Blinn College. MCC's other win came Friday in a 3-1 win over North Central Texas College.

"Jordan Duzenack played great this weekend and in a different position," said Kobza.

Duzenack, the sophomore from Loveland, Colo. had 37 kills over four matches with three assist blocks and eight digs.

MCC improves to 11-6 and will be home Wednesday hosting Central Community College in a Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference match starting at 6 p.m. in the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center.

McCook CC 3, Hill College 0: MCC swept the morning match over the Rebels 25-16, 25-22, 25-18. Hill College goes to 7-10 on the year.

Sophomore Greta Bolognini (Bergamo, Italy) paced the defense with 18 digs, three assists and two aces. Freshman Caylin Barnett (McCook) added 12 digs and three aces and Emerie Rios (sophomore transfer, Sterling, Colo.) had 12 digs and two aces.

Jessie Jerome (sophomore, Rawlins, Wyo.) led the passing attack with 34 assists, and pitched in three kills, one assist block, two aces and five digs. Kayten Hagan (freshman, Kearney) had a pair of assists and freshman Lexi Schaefer (freshman, Fleming, Colo.) had one ace.

Duzenack led the MCC attack with 13 kills and picked up five digs. Romina Martinez Castro (freshman, Cochabamba, Bolivia) had a double-double with 10 kills, 11 digs, one assist block and one solo block. Sophomore Fernanda Merancio (Lamar, Colo.) was credited with eight kills and one assist block.

Gabby Caskey (sophomore, Ogallala) had five kills, one solo block and one assist block. Sophomore Gracen Tuttle (Ogallala) had a kill and two assist blocks. April Conilogue (freshman, Longmont, Colo.) also had a solo block in the middle.

McCook CC 3, Cisco College 0: MCC handled the Wranglers 25-17, 25-23, 25-20.

Castro Martinez led the attack with 12 kills to go along with five digs, two assist blocks and an ace. Duzenack had 11 kills and one assist block. Merancio connected for 10 kills and three assist blocks.

Bolognini had 24 digs, three assists and an ace. Rios had 12 digs and Barnett had seven.

Jerome distributed 34 assists, had eight kills, seven digs, two aces and an assist block. Hagan had two assists.

Caskey had eight kills and two assist blocks. Conilogue had a pair of kills and a pair of assist blocks.
