No. 5 Plainswomen sweep MCC at home

The No. 5 Northeastern Junior College women swept MCC Volleyball Friday night at home 25-17, 25-18 and 25-21.

"I think mentally we played better tonight but we still need to minimize all the small errors," said MCC Coach Hayley Kobza.

With the win the Plainswomen improve to 21-2 on the season and 2-0 in the south sub region.

Sophomore libero Greta Bolognini (Bergamo, Italy) led MCC with 20 more digs and an assist. She entered the weekend third in the nation in digs and pushed her season total to 453.

"We have a phenomenal libero and she played very well tonight," said Kobza.

Freshman Kayten Hagan (Amherst H.S.) added a double-double with 18 assists and 13 digs to go with a pair of aces. Caylin Barnett (Freshman, McCook) added seven digs.

Sophomore Jessie Jerome (Rawlins, Wyo.) led MCC with 12 kills and had five digs, one assist and two assist blocks. Fernanda Merancio (sophomore, Lamar, Colo.) had 10 kills. Freshman Romina Martinez (Cochabamba, Bolivia) had three kills and six digs.

Gabby Caskey (sophomore, Ogallala) had three kills and two assist blocks. Freshman April Conilogue (Longmont, Colo.) had two kills and two assist blocks. Sophomore Gracen Tuttle (Ogallala) had one kill and one assist block.

MCC, now 12-9 and 0-2 in the region, travels to North Platte Saturday to take on 14-7 Northeastern Community College (Norfolk) at 1 p.m. in a non-conference match.

"We've got a quick turnaround and just have to focus on the small things," Kobza said.

On Tuesday MCC returns home to host North Platte at 6 p.m. in a Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference match.
