Greta Bolognini snags top player honors; leads nation in digs

For the third time this season McCook Community College sophomore Greta Bolognini has been named Region IX South Defensive Player of the week.

The 5-8 libero from Bergamo Italy played in three matches last week and was credited with 69 digs. She had 25 in five sets against Western Nebraska, 21 in three sets against Northeastern Junior College and 23 in a four-set win Saturday over Northeast Community College.

With those digs, she moves into the top spot in the nation of players from 87 division 1 teams with 477 digs. She's third in digs per set with 5.89.

MCC is third in the nation in total digs with 1,515. The Lady Indians are also fifth in the nation in kills with 988 (18th with 12.05 kills per set). The team leads the nation in total attacks with 2,976 and fifth in total blocks with 188.

Sophomore Fernanda Merancio is 10th in the nation with 272 kills and sophomore Gabby Caskey is fourth in total blocks with 89.

MCC, 13-9 will host North Platte Community College (6-12) tonight at 6 p.m. in the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center.
