MCC’s Daniel Bannon named pre-season JUCO All-American

McCook Community College sophomore Daniel Bannon, a utility player from Sydney, Australia, has been named to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I All-American team. He is one of 11 JUCO players selected to the squad.

During his first year at MCC, Bannon was named the Region IX Freshman of the Year, and also selected to the first-team.

Bannon, who played primarily second base last year, set single-season MCC records in three categories: batting average (.439), total bases (156), and the on-base record (.525). He also tied single-season records with 77 runs and six triples. He played in 57 games this spring, with 13 home runs, 15 doubles, 13 stolen bases and 52 RBIs.

His 90 hits were the sixth most among all Division I players in the spring, he also ranked eighth in runs (77), 11th in total bases (156) and 14th with his six triples and 15th in batting average (.439).

MCC opens its season Feb. 4 in Dallas, Texas in a four-game series with North Lake College. The first home game is scheduled for Feb. 22 at 2 p.m. against Garden City Community College.
