MCC Baseball wraps up 2-2 weekend with loss to Dodge City

DODGE CITY, Kan. – The McCook Community College baseball team finished the weekend Sunday with a 16-6 loss to Dodge City Community College completing a 2-2 weekend.

MCC began the weekend Friday with a 16-4 win at Frank Phillips College then won the first of two Saturday games downing Highland Community College 10-0 in Dodge City and losing the second game 15-5.

On Sunday took the lead 3-0 when the Conquistadors committed two first-inning errors. Dodge City tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Freshman Ethan Murdoch (Swift Current, Saskatchewan) delivered a two-out, two-run RBI in the second to put MCC up 5-3. Daniel Bannon (sophomore, Sydney, Australia) put MCC up 6-3 on a third-inning sacrifice fly.

Sophomore Ethan Fritz (Bellevue) started the game for MCC and went 2.1 innings and was tagged with the loss as Dodge City put up eight runs in the third inning to lead 11-3 and added to it with a run in fifth inning.

Jordan Muschalek (Odessa, Texas) pitched 3.1 innings in relief and allowed one run on three hits with six strikeouts. Four MCC pitchers allowed 17 hits and walked four. Dodge City put the game away on the 10-run rule with four runs in the eighth inning.

MCC had five hits in the game, with two from Daniel Bannon and two RBI-games from Caleb Eiguren (sophomore, Broomfield, Colo.) and Murdoch.

MCC goes to 3-2 on the season and Dodge City improves to 4-0.

On Wednesday MCC heads to Texas for five games starting with a doubleheader against TCS Post Grad Academy then on to Clarendon College with a doubleheader Friday and a single game Saturday.

MCC is set to open the home season Feb. 22 against Garden City at 2 p.m.
