MCC Baseball scores three in 10th to down TCS, 12-9

MELISSA, Texas – After surrendering an 8-0 lead Thursday, the McCook Community College baseball team came back to score three runs in the 10th inning in a 12-9 win over TCS Post Grad at Melissa ISD Field. (TCS stands for The Complete Showcase).

Tied 9-9 after nine innings, MCC got leadoff singles in the 10th inning from sophomores Elijah Munoz (Big Spring, Texas) and Daniel Bannon (Sydney, Australia) then a two-out double off the bat of  Caleb Eiguren, (sophomore Broomfield, Colo.) and an RBI-single from freshman Ethan Murdoch (Swift Current, Saskatchewan).

Jordan Muschalek (sophomore Odessa, Texas) retired all three TCS batters in the bottom of the inning to close out the win. Sophomore Max Mrakovic (Sydney, Australia) started the game on the mound for MCC and pitched three scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out two.

MCC took the lead with an unearned run in the first, added two in the second on an RBI-single by sophomore Deagen Morocom (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and a sacrifice fly from Bannon.

In the MCC third, added five more runs. Kade Poteet-Herrera (Pueblo, Colo.) delivered a two-run RBI-single, Munoz doubled in two more and Bannon had another sacrifice fly to put MCC up 8-0.

A trio of freshman followed Mrakovcic on the mound. Jackson Bigge (Fort Collins, Colo.) pitched two innings and allowed one unearned run. Rylan Wallingford (Fort Calhoun, Neb.) pitched two outs into the sixth inning, allowing two earned runs and Jelle Bing (Heerhagoaard, Netherlands) went 2.1 innings allowing one unearned run and striking out three. Muschalek pitched the ninth and 10th innings for MCC allowing two hits and two earned runs.

MCC committed four errors in the game leading to four unearned runs as TCS got back in the game with two in the fifth inning, four in the sixth, one in the seventh and two more in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The only run MCC scored between the 8-0 lead in the third inning and the three-run 10th inning, was a run in the sixth frame when Eiguren singled home sophomore Markus Coronado (Irving, Texas) to give MCC a 9-2 lead. Coronado had led off the inning with a single.

Eiguren led the MCC offense on the afternoon with four hits in five at bats, driving in three with two stolen bases. The third-year catcher has started the season with 10 hits in his first 16 at bats, batting .625 with eight RBIs in the four games in which he has played.

Poteet-Herrera and Munoz both had two hits and two RBIs. MCC had 14 hits on the day.

MCC pitchers allowed 10 hits, struck out 10 and walked four batters.

TCS Post Grad goes to 1-4 on the year.

MCC improves to 4-2 and moves on to Clarendon College for a three-game series with the Bulldogs starting with a 1 p.m. game Friday. Clarendon is 1-5 on the season under first-year Coach Kregg Snook who was MCC's assistant coach the past two years under Jon Olsen.
