MCC Baseball earns Friday win over Clarendon College

CLARENDON, Texas – The McCook Community College baseball team opened a three-game series here Friday with a 16-0 win over Clarendon College. Three MCC pitchers combined to no-hit the Bulldogs and the MCC offense scored 10 runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

"The game started out a little rough with starter Alex Lozada only going one inning and exiting with some shoulder tightness," said MCC Coach Jon Olsen.

Lozada (sophomore, Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) allowed one base runner with a walk before leaving the game. Cade Webber (freshman Kelowna, British Columbia) came in in relief and walked six while striking out seven.

"Cade Webber came in and didn't a great job in his five innings of work, that was really good to see," said Olsen. "And Owen Lester came in to throw the seventh. It was pretty special to see a combined no-hitter between the three guys."

MCC was held off the scoreboard until a three-run third inning. Sophomore Zack Beatty (Maple Park, Ill.) delivered a two-out, two-run double and sophomore Caleb Eiguren, (Broomfield, Colo.) followed with an RBI-single. One inning later Beatty powered a two-out, three-run homer to put MCC up 6-0.

"We got our bats got going in the middle innings and we really swung it we'll all day," Olsen said. "That was good to see, Zack Beatty and Daniel Bannon had really good games at the plate and we played very good defense all day."

MCC put the offense in high-gear with five run innings in the fifth and sixth innings. MCC sent nine batters to the plate in the fifth with Beatty capping the scoring with a two-out RBI single. Nine more MCC batters helped plate five more runs in the sixth with Eiguren singling in the final two runs of the game.

Bannon finished the game with four hits and two doubles. Beatty went three-for-four with six RBIs and sophomore Markus Coronado (Irving, Texas) tallied a double, two singles, and two RBIs. Sophomore Elijah Munoz (Big Spring, Texas) and Eiguren had two hits with Eigured driving in three runs and Munoz two.

"We have to come out ready to go again tomorrow," said Olsen.

MCC moves to 5-2 on the season. Clarendon College Coach Kregg Snook (who was MCC's assistant coach the past two years at MCC) goes to 1-6.

The two teams will continue their series Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon.
