MCC’s Zach Beatty named Region IX Player of the Week

For the fifth straight week a McCook Community College baseball players has earned Region IX weekly honors. On Wednesday, sophomore Zach Beatty was named Region IX Player of the week.

For the week, Beatty, (Maple Park, Ill.) had seven hits in 15 at bats (a .467 average) with four home runs and 12 RBIs.

He capped the week Monday with a four-homer day in Beatrice against Southeast Community College, with a home run in a 12-11 win over the Storm in the first game of a doubleheader, then in the second game hit three home runs in consecutive at bats in a 13-10 loss to SCC in 10 innings.

His eight home runs and 30 RBs through 22 games moves him into the top 20 in the nation in both categories. Last year, as a freshman he batted .354 with 18 home runs and 63 RBIs in 56 games.

Beatty joins teammates Daniel Bannon and Ethan Murdoch who received player of the week honors Feb. 20 and Feb. 27. Also a trio of pitchers (Alex Lozada, Cade Webber and Owen Lester) earned co-pitchers of the week Feb. 20 and Max Mrakovcic was named Region IX pitcher of the week March 6.
