Southeast extends win streak to 17 in win over MCC baseball

The Southeast Community College baseball team stretched their win streak to 18 games Friday as they downed MCC 7-3.

Southeast starting left-handed pitcher Caleb Ruter limited MCC to one hit through the first six innings and struck out nine as the Storm scrapped for runs in four of the first five innings to lead 6-0, and held on for the nine-inning win.

Ruter set the tone striking out the first three MCC batters of the game.

The Storm scored a run in the first, third and fourth innings to take a 4-0 lead of MCC starter Max Mrakovic (sophomore, Sydney, Australia). He allowed four hits, six walks and he struck out five after being unable to record an out in the fifth inning.

MCC's first hit of the game came in the fourth when sophomore Elijah Munoz (Big Spring, Texas) led off the inning.

Freshman Cade Webber (Kelowna, British Columbia) went two innings of scoreless relief allowing one hit and one walk, along with one strikeout.

MCC came back with three runs in the eighth inning. Sophomore Zack Beatty (Maple Park, Ill.) put MCC on the scoreboard with an RBI-single. Sophomore Caleb Eiguren, (Broomfield, Colo.) followed with an RBI- double. A sacrifice fly off the bat of freshman Ethan Murdoch (Swift Current, Saskatchewan) cut the deficit to 6-3 and brought the tying run to the plate MCC was unable to push any more runs home.

Freshman Jelle Bing (Heerhagoaard, Netherlands) pitched a pair of scoreless innings before he gave up a solo home run in the ninth. He pitched three innings, allowed the one run on two hits, one walk and three strikeouts.

MCC finished with five hits. Eiguren and sophomore Jordan DeMarce (Las Vegas) had the only extra-base hits with their doubles.

The Storm improve to 32-6 and 22-1 in the Region.

MCC goes to 22-21 overall and 14-12 in the Region.

The two teams wrap up their six-game season series Saturday at the Jaycees Sports Complex with doubleheader to begin at 1 p.m.
