MCC moving up Saturday baseball games to Friday

The McCook Community College baseball teams is altering the weekend schedule because of weather with Saturday games postponed.

The three-game series between MCC and Western Nebraska in Scottsbluff will not start Friday with doubleheader at 2 p.m.

"We are going to try and start Friday and then see what the weather looks like for the rest of the weekend," said MCC Coach Jon Olsen. If the weather is bad Saturday the teams may try again on Sunday.

The three-game MCC baseball series against Western Nebraska has post-season ramifications, with both teams fighting with Northeastern Junior College for second place in the final standings in the North Conference of the Empire League, behind Southeast Community College. The top two teams in the standings will host first-round post-season games against the third and fourth place teams in the South Conference.

Southeast has clinched the north standings at 27-2 and will host the south's fourth-place team in a best-of-three, first-round series in the post-season tournament. The Storm travel to Scottsbluff today to play a pair of makeup games.

NJC is second in the standings at 16-15. The Plainsmen will close out the season with a three-game series at home against Southeast.

MCC third at 15-16 and Western Nebraska is fourth at 14-15. The second place team in the north will face the third place team in the south in the post season.
