MCC’s Murdoch, Chabi gain top weekly baseball honors

Two McCook Community College baseball players have been named top players and top pitchers of the week over the past two weeks by Region IX coaches.

Sophomore outfielder Ethan Murdoch (Swift Current, Saskatchewan) received player of the week honors Feb. 6-12 and freshman pitcher Myles Chabi (Sydney, Australia) was named Region IX pitcher of the week Feb. 13-19.

Murdoch batted .385 going 10-for-26 at the plate during the second week of February, with seven runs scored, six RBIS, three doubles, two triples, and one homerun, while also adding two walks. He actually had a higher batting mark the following week going six-for-11 with a .545 average and three doubles in three games against Pratt Community College.

Through his first nine games this year, he is batting .471 with eight RBIs, six doubles, two triples and a home run. He has a .538 on base average and is slugging .853.

On Sunday Chabi, picked up a five-inning complete game win over Labette Community College, allowing one hit and one run (unearned) with seven strikeouts. This was Chabi's third start of the season.

He's pitched 12 innings, allowed six hits and struck out 11 with a 1.50 earned run average.
