MCC Baseball splits Sunday doubleheader with Trinidad State

TRINIDAD, Colo. – The McCook Community College baseball team split a pair of games on the road at Trinidad State Sunday. The Trojans won the first game 5-2 and MCC came back to take the second game 15-5 in five innings.

In Game 1, Trinidad scored a pair of runs in the first and second innings and Trojan pitching held MCC to five hits. In Game 2, MCC broke open a 3-1 game scoring nine runs after two outs in the fourth inning to back the complete game pitching of freshman Aiden Johnson (Westminster, Colo.), who struck out 11 Trojans in five innings of work.

"It was good to bounce back in Game 2," said MCC Coach Jon Olsen. "We didn't really get a whole lot going in Game 1 – their starter did a nice job and we had just some little mistakes that hurt us."

Trinidad State goes to 5-14 overall and 3-2 in Region IX play.

MCC goes to 7-9 and 2-3 in region play.

The two teams will play a Monday doubleheader starting at 1 p.m (CT)

"We need to come out ready to go," said Olsen.

In the fifth, Minic delivered an RBI-double, followed by a two-run double by Riley Watson (sophomore, Sydney, Australia).

Aiden Johnson allowed nine hits in five innings, three earned runs, he didn't walk a hitter and struck out 11.
