Trinidad State takes a pair of comeback wins Monday over MCC Baseball

TRINIDAD, Colo. – The McCook Community College baseball team was unable to hold leads in both ends of a Monday Doubleheader and lost to Trinidad State. The Trojans won 8-7 in Game 1 on a two-run, walk-off home run, and won the second game 14-11.

"It was a super disappointing day," said MCC Coach Jon Olsen. "We spent both games building multiple leads just to see then disappear multiple times."

In Game 2, MCC led 4-1 after three innings and 11-7 in the top of the sixth but Trinidad scored seven runs in the sixth inning.

"We just didn't do the little things defensively not necessary errors but just little things where we could have got an out here or there to get us out of a big inning, plus we just didn't pitch good enough at the end of either game," said Olsen.

Trinidad State improves to 7-14 overall and 5-2 in Region IX play.

MCC goes to 7-11 overall and 2-5 in region play. The team is scheduled to travel to Norfolk Wednesday for a 2 p.m. game against Northeast Community College.

This weekend MCC is scheduled for its home opener against Southeast Community College. The three-game Empire League North series begins at 2 p.m. Saturday with a pair of games Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
