MCC Baseball powers eight homers in sweep over Northwestern Oklahoma JVs

ALVA, Okla. – The McCook Community College baseball team swatted eight home runs and banged out 15 extra-base hits Wednesday in a sweep over the Northwestern Oklahoma State JV team. MCC won 15-6 and 13-4.

"It was good to get back on track today, we came out and swung it all day, it was a tough day to pitch conditions wise, and I thought we competed extremely well," said MCC Coach Jon Olsen.

Sophomore Abel Reyes (Puerto Caimito, Panama) homered twice with six RBIs in Game 1 and Ethan Murdoch (sophomore, Swift Current, Saskatchewan) hit a grand slam in Game 2 and went three-for-five as MCC offense allowed eight pitchers to get some innings.

"We threw eight guys and I was pretty happy with them all, we were in the zone the majority of the day, and I think we only had one inning where we gave up more than one run, which was good to see, the big inning has been hurting us as of late," Olsen said.

MCC's offense generated 26 hits in 14 innings at the plate Wednesday and eight players had multi-hit games.

"I think our lineup is starting to come together a bit, we have a lot of new guys and we're starting to see how it can take shape," Olsen said. "Hopefully we can get into some set spots and establish some rhythm."

MCC goes to 10-13 overall with the team watching the weather and hoping to get in a four-game series at home with Lamar Community College Saturday and Sunday. Doubleheaders are set to start at 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday at the Jaycees Sports Complex. MCC is 3-7 in region play.

"We have a couple big conference weekends coming up and we need to make up some ground one conference game at a time," said Olsen.

The following weekend MCC will travel to Las Vegas, N.M. for a four-game Region IX series at Luna Community College.
