Two outfielders moving on for MCC baseball

A pair of McCook Community College baseball players have signed on with four-year schools according to MCC Coach Jon Olsen.

Josh Maysonave, will play at Oklahoma Baptist University, a Division 2 school in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and Riley Watson signed on at Wayland Baptist University, an NAIA program at Plainview, Texas.

"Both Josh and Riley were two sophomore outfielders who really had an impact both years they were here," said Olsen.

Maysonave, a 5-10 left-handed hitter from Austin, Texas, played in 57 games this past season and batted .307 with 12 home runs and 46 RBIs, with a .468 on-base average and a .566 slugging percentage.

"Josh hit cleanup all year this year and hit over .300 both years, this season had double-digit home runs and doubles, he also walked 50 times in the year, which led the team and was up there in the country," said Olsen.

As a freshman Maysonave walked 18 times and struck out 45 times in 132 at bats then improved his ratio to 50 walks and 47 strikeouts as a sophomore in 189 at bats. He ranked 18th in the NJCAA in walks this year.

For his career he batted .318 with 19 home runs and 74 RBIs in 97 games and 321 at bats.

"Josh is going to a high-level school that has a rich history of winning and is a lot closer to home for him, it will be a great spot for him," said Olsen.

Watson is a 6-2 right-handed hitting outfielder from Sydney, Australia.

"Riley played a big role for us roaming centerfield over the past two years," said Olsen.

Watson is a career .284 hitter, appearing in 69 games and 229 at bats. He hit four home runs, five, triples, 11 doubles and seven steals. He committed just four errors over the past two years.

"Riley is a very good defender that can hit, he has a lot of tools and will be a very nice player for Wayland Baptist next year," said Olsen. "They have a very good coaching staff and I am very happy for Riley and want to wish him the best of luck as he moves forward in his four-year journey."

This season Watson, batted .289 in 29 games, had a .388 on-base average.
