Southeast Community College seized control of the Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference Standings Monday with a 67-60 win over McCook Community College.

"The same story as at their place last week, we're up one point at halftime and completely came out flat, not ready to go and they go on a 7-0 run to start the second half and we never recovered," said MCC Coach Jacob Brandl.

Eight days earlier in Southeast MCC had led 27-26 at intermission, gave up a 26-3 after halftime and lost 64-59. On Monday at the Peter and Dolores Graff Event Center, MCC led 29-28 at the half, gave up a run out of intermission, and lost by seven points.

"All our energy and effort in the second half was really disappointing," said Brandl.

MCC committed 23 turnover and was outscored at the free-throw line by 17 points. The Storm made 20 of 28 free throws and MCC was three of six. Southeast was just three of 13 from distance.

"We've got to do better, because defensively we held them to 35.6 percent shooting and we dominated the glass," Brandl said.

MCC outrebounded SECC 45-29.

"Some positives, we did what we were supposed to do on the glass," Brandl said.

Freshman Noah Boyed (Castries, St. Lucia) and sophomore Simon Akena (Stockholm, Sweden) both scored 19 points. Boyed led all rebounders with 15.

MCC shot 41.3 percent from the floor and made five of 22 shots from 3-point range (22.7 percent).

Southeast improves to 22-4 and 4-0 in the NCCAC. Southeast's remaining conference games are both on the road. MCC has a conference (and Region IX) home date Feb. 14 with North Platte and a road game at Columbus Feb. 20.

MCC goes to 7-16 and 2-2 in the NCCAC.

On Friday MCC returns attention to the Region IX South Division where they are 2-4 and take on Lamar (7-15, 2-3) at 8 p.m. in the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center. North Platte comes to town Feb. 14 and MCC closes out the home-schedule Feb. 16 against Northeastern Junior College.
