MCC’s Ethan Gough signs on to golf for Division II Barry U.

McCook Community College sophomore golfer Ethan Gough, has signed a letter of intent to golf next year for Barry University, an NCAA Division II school in Miami Shores, Fla.

"He is a great leader with a very high ceiling, so it is no surprise to see him doing so well and receiving this great opportunity at one of the premier D-II golf programs," said MCC Golf Coach Tyler Loop.

The Bucs have three national championships and are currently ranked No. 2 in the nation in the golfstat.com rankings.

"Ethan has been an amazing player for McCook over the last two years with several individual tournament wins and always finds himself in contention each tournament," Loop said of the sophomore business major from Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.

After the fall schedule Gough ranks 11th in National Junior College Athletic Association Division 1 rankings and has the lowest scoring average of all NJCAA division 1 golfers at 70.97.

In 12 rounds of region golf this fall, he posted 52 birdies, 130 pars, 28 bogeys, and five double bogeys. Gough leads all Region IX golfers in the individual point standings with 50 points, earning at least six points in every fall meet. He earned first-place points in three of his six tournaments, sharing first place with teammate Cade Cryer (Durban, South Africa) Sept. 2 at the MCC Invite and Sept. 23 at the Northeastern Junior College tournament. He won the final fall tournament in Lamar outright with a 5-under par 135.

Gough also set several individual McCook golf records this fall including low round score with a 7-under par 65 at the NJC tournament and tied for the lowest tournament score with Cryer at 137, also at the NJC invite.

MCC leads the Region IX standings at the midway point of the season by three points over Eastern Wyoming, 54-51. MCC is ranked 17th in the latest NJCAA Top 25 poll. The season resumes March 23 in Lamar, Colo.
