MCC Golfers finish in fourth place at Central Wyoming

RIVERTON, Wyo. – The McCook Community College golf team finished fourth in the two-day Central Wyoming Tournament Friday.

MCC came back from a 312 Thursday and was two shots off the pace of the winning Central Wyoming team posting a Friday score of 297, but finished 33 strokes back of the leaders.

"It was a good bounce-back round today and shows more of what we can be capable of," said MCC Coach Tyler Loop.

Central Wyoming had a 14-shot lead after the opening round Thursday and won by 13 shots over second-place Otero Junior College; Eastern Wyoming was third, four shots ahead of MCC.

"A 15-stroke difference between rounds one and two in two tournaments in a row shows we have a mental block in that first round that we need to get fixed, but they are young and still figuring things out," said Loop.

MCC freshmen Matt Grimonprez (Villenuave-d'ascq, France) and Everett Schroeder (Sheboygan, Wis.) tied for team-best scores with 150s, which tied them for sixth place. Grimonprez came back from an 81 in the opening round to shoot a 69 on Friday. That was two shots better than any golfer on the course Friday. Schroeder had rounds of 73 and 77.

Freshman Andrew Brown (Wollongong, Australia) finished with an 11-over par 155, with rounds of 80 and 75.

Zachary Woods (freshman, Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia) shot back-to-back rounds of 78 to finish at 156. Freshman Chance Gambini ( Las Vegas, Nev) came back from an 88 Thursday with a 76 Friday to finish at 164.

The Region IX field will be in Torrington, Wyo. Thursday and Friday for the Eastern Wyoming tournament.
