MCC golfers finish fourth at Otero meet

LA JUNTA, Colo. – After a week break in the schedule, the McCook Community College golfers returned to the links this week and finished fourth in the two-day Otero Junior College Tournament. Eastern Wyoming won the tournament by 12 shots over Otero, and 20 shots ahead of Central Wyoming.

MCC started the tournament Thursday shooting a one-over par score through the first nine holes but finished the opening round in fourth place and on Friday held on for a fourth-place finish, one shot better than Northeastern Junior College.

"We just continue to play undisciplined golf," said MCC Coach Tyler Loop. "Every player has had glimpses of good golf here and there and we saw that this week too, but we haven't put consistent rounds together."

Andrew Brown (Wollongong, Australia) shot a three-under par 67 on Thursday and was tied for second place entering the final round Friday. He posted a 77 on Friday to finish at 144 and tied for ninth at four-over par.

Matt Grimonprez (Villenuave-d'ascq, France) came back from a 75 Thursday with a 70 on Friday to finish at five-over with a 145. Chance Gambini (Las Vegas, Nev.) had rounds of 78 and 72 to finish at 10 over.

Zachary Woods (Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia) scored a 74 on Thursday and a 78 Friday. Everett Schroeder (Sheboygan, Wis.) shot rounds of 78 and 80.

"It's not a talent issue, its 100 percent mental," Loop said.

The Indians will bypass next weekend's Region IX tournament and instead play in the Nebraska Intercollegiate tournament at Kearney on Friday and Saturday.

MCC will be home to host the Region IX field Oct. 12-13 at Heritage Hills.
