MCC golfers finishes third at home invite

The McCook Community College golf team finished third Thursday in the one-day MCC Invite at Heritage Hills Golf Course. The tournament had been postponed because of weather last week.

Eastern Wyoming won the meet with an 18-over par 306. Central Wyoming was second with a 315 and MCC third at 318. In addition to the Region IX D1 field, North Platte Community College also competed and finished fifth with a 333.

"The course was playing extremely tough today," said MCC Coach Tyler Loop. "We had hopes of winning our home tournament and were a little shy of that, needed another good score in the 70s to do it."

Otero's Wesley Rodrigues and Central Wyoming's Hardy Johnson tied for individual honors, both shooting one-over par 73s on the day.

MCC Freshman Matt Grimonprez (Villenuave-d'ascq, France) was his team's top golfer on the day and finished third with a three-over par 75.

Zachary Woods (freshman, Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia) finished in ninth place with a 78. Freshman Chance Gambini (Las Vegas, Nev.) shot a 79 to finish in a tie for 10^th place.

Andrew Brown (freshman, Wollongong, Australia) shot at 86 and freshman Everett Schroeder (Sheboygan, Wis.) shot an 88.

"The guys are working hard, it's just not exactly showing in the results, but it will," said Loop.

MCC will close out the fall schedule in New Mexico at the National Championship Preview Tournament at the Rockwind Community Links in Hobbs. N.M. MCC will play 36 holes on Sunday and complete the tournament with 18 holes Tuesday.
