Murray State sweeps Monday games with MCC softball

TISHOMINGO, Okla. – The Murray State College softball team won a pair of games Monday in shutout fashion over McCook Community College, 9-0 and 10-0. MCC was held to four hits in the doubleheader.

"We just need to get more live repetitions," said MCC Coach Mike Mendenhall.

The Aggies are a program that won 47 games a year ago. They improve to 4-0 on the season.

MCC falls to 0-4 to start the season and will travel to Colby Sunday for a pair of games starting at 1 p.m. Following another six-game road trip in Texas Feb. 16-19, MCC's home-opener is scheduled for Feb. 26 against Colby with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.

GAME 1 – Murray State College 9, McCook CC 0: Murray State College broke up a 3-0 game with six runs in the fourth inning to down MCC 9-0.

Sophomore Nevaeh Ogden (Littleton Colo.) hit a one-out triple in the first inning, but was left stranded.

The Aggies went up 2-0 off MCC starter Ella Covill-Marter (freshman, Queensland, Australia) and added another run in the third. She allowed nine hits, no walks, and struck out two.

MCC was held to three hits in the game, Ogden's triple and singles by sophomore Emma Pennala (Kennewick, Wash.) and freshman Andie Suhai (Medicine Hat, Alberta).

GAME 2 – Murray State College 10, McCook CC 0: The Aggies raced on top with five first-inning runs and never trailed.

After the first inning, MCC starting pitcher Hailee Ruble (sophomore, Delta, Colo.) didn't allow an earned run through the fourth inning when MSC scored four runs. Ruble allowed nine hits, walked two and struck out two.

MCC was held to one hit – a first-inning single off the bat of Andie Suhai.
