MCC Softball drops a pair of games in Texas tournament

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The McCook Community College softball team lost twice Friday to a pair of opponents. In the first game of the day Western Oklahoma State scored five times in the sixth inning to down MCC 7-3. Odessa shutout MCC in the second game 12-0.

On Saturday MCC continues in the Cisco Invite and will starts things off at 9 a.m. against Midland College then take on Pratt Community College (Kansas) at 12:15 p.m.

MCC's home-opener is scheduled for Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. against Colby Community College.

GAME 1 – Western Okla. St. College 7, McCook CC 3: After the Western Pioneers scored runs in the second and third innings, MCC was able to tie the game in the bottom of the third.

Nevaeh Ogden (Littleton Colo.) led off the inning with a single, after two outs, a Western error led to two runs and the scored remained 2-2 until the fifth when the Western Pioneers scored five runs on an MCC error, three straight singles, a hit batter, and a two-run double to make it a 7-2 game.

MCC scored its final run on two WOSC errors and a sacrifice fly from freshman Graci Nelson (McCook).

Sophomore Hailee Ruble (Delta, Colo.) started in the circle for MCC. She went 5.2 innings, allowed eight hits, five earned runs, she walked two and struck out one. Isabella Robertson (freshman Las Alamos, N.M.) pitched the final 1.1 inning allowing one hit and she struck out one.

MCC had four hits in the game with two from Ogden and one each from freshmen Kalyn Jackson (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and freshman Andie Suhai (Medicine Hat, Alberta).

The Western Pioneers improved to 3-2 on the season.

GAME 2 – Odessa 12, McCook CC 0: Odessa won its eighth straight game and improves to 9-3 on the season with the no-hit shutout.

Odessa scored once in the first, three in the second and third innings and five in the fourth to post the five-inning win.

MCC's offense was limited to five walks. Odessa had nine hits and took advantage of four MCC errors to score nine unearned runs.

Ella Covill-Marter (Queensland, Australia) started for MCC in the pitching circle and went 3.2 innings allowing eight hits and three earned runs. She walked one and fanned four. Freshman Isabella Robertson (Las Alamos, N.M.) pitched the final on-third of an inning and allowed one earned run.
