MCC Softball rolls with 51-run day in doubleheader sweep over Lamar CC

LAMAR, Colo. – The McCook Community College won two more games at Lamar picking up two Sunday wins by the scores of 21-2 and 30-0.

In the pitching circle, sophomore Hailee Ruble (Delta, Colo.) didn't allow an earned run in Game 1 and freshman Isabella Robertson (Las Alamos, N.M.) tossed a four-hit shutout in Game 2.

"We got great pitching performances from Hailee and Bell today," said MCC Coach Mike Mendenhall. "They competed in the zone and we made plays behind them."

Sophomore Cassidy Fife (Provo, Utah) went six-for-10 on the afternoon with eight RBIs. Andie Suhai (Medicine Hat, Alberta) had five hits in six at bats with a home run and four RBIs. Sophomore Emma Pennala (Kennewick, Wash.) went five-for-seven with six RBIs and freshman Brylee Dean (Gering) went four-for-five in Game 2 with four RBIs.

"We had a pretty good day at the plate for us having 39 hits combined. We just couldn't get out," said Mendenhall. "We weren't trying to run up the score by any means. We were just locked in and then took advantage of their miscues."

Lamar falls to 0-22 in the region and 2-28 overall.

The two teams resume the five-game series with a single game Monday.

MCC is now 11-7 in Region IX and 17-19 overall.
