MCC Softball sweeps Clarendon; win streak hits 14

CLARENDON, Texas – The McCook Community College softball team won its 14th game in a row in a Saturday sweep over Clarendon College, 9-1 and 23-1.

"It was a good day for us," said MCC Coach Mike Mendenhall. "We knew these were games we are supposed to win, and our girls game out with some fire."

Sophomore Andie Suhai (Medicine Hat, Alberta) drove in five runs and went three-for-five at the plate in Game 1 with a home run to back the four-hit pitching of sophomore Ella Covill-Marter (Queensland, Australia) who struck out 10 hitters.

In Game 2 the Lady Indians scored in every inning, and outhit Clarendon 25-3 as freshman Lexi Knapp (Berthoud, Colo.) picked up the win in the pitching circle.

"Two more nice pitching performances with only two walks on the day," said Mendenhall. "We got a lot of girls in the lineup and they all performed well when called upon."

Clarendon College falls to 0-10 on the season.

MCC goes to 14-2 and will be home Monday to host Northwest Kansas Technical College (0-14) in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
