MCC softball resets NJC series; will play Monday at home

Because of weather and field conditions, the McCook Community College softball games scheduled for Sunday in Sterling, Colo. were postponed. MCC and Northeastern Junior College will play two games Monday at the Jaycees Sports Complex starting at 1 p.m.

The two teams were to play a split doubleheader this weekend with two Friday games in McCook and two Sunday games in Sterling. Those Friday games were originally moved to April 3 in McCook, but because of Sunday's postponements those April games will now be played in Colorado.

MCC (16-2) with a 16-game winning streak will start their four-game season series against the defending Region IX champs, NJC (6-11) Monday with first pitch set for 1 p.m.

The Lady Indians, who are 8-0 at home, will then play the Hastings College JV two games Tuesday starting at 4 p.m.

MCC is leading the nation in hitting, with a team batting average of .462 – tops among 138 teams playing division 1 softball in the National Junior College Athletic Association. The Lady Indians are also tops in on-base average at .462, fifth in slugging at .705 and eighth with 240 runs scored. MCC pitchers are also third in the nation striking out 9.39 batters per seven innings and 15th overall with 127 strikeouts.
