MCC Women’s season ends with 67-50 loss in tournament

CASPER, Wyo. – The McCook Community College women's basketball season came to an end Thursday with a 67-50 loss in the Region IX Tournament to Eastern Wyoming. The teams ends the season with a 19-12 record.

MCC led at the half 28-25 but the Lady Lancers came out hot in the second half and outscored MCC 21-8 in the third period.

"Eastern Wyoming just wanted it more tonight," said MCC Coach Brandon Pritchett. "They came out aggressive defensively and made shots in the second half."

MCC shot 48 percent in the first half and then made just five of 28 shots from the field in the second half – 17.9 percent.

"We had a good first half and then just struggled to find a rhythm offensively," Pritchett said.

Conversely, Eastern Wyoming shot 28.1 percent in the first half and made 18 of 28 shots in the second half (64.3 percent).

The Lady Lancers held a 19-11 advantage in points off turnovers, 34-16 in the paint and 22-6 in bench points.

MCC finished the game shooting 32.1 percent made five of 15 3-pointers (33.3 percent) and went 11 of 15 from the line.

Eastern Wyoming shot 45 percent from the floor, made 29.4 from the 3-point line and eight of nine from the foul line (88.9 percent)

Sophomore Vanessa Jurewicz (Stockholm, Sweden) led MCC with 17 points. Sophomore Sonia Sato (El Paso, Texas) scored 10 points and led MCC with 11 rebounds. Sophomore Carla Torrubia Cano (Melilla, Spain) scored nine points.

 "The final game of the season is always tough," Pritchett said. "We had a solid season though, to finish 19-12 with all the ups and downs with injuries this year. This group fought at lot of adversity. I'm proud of them and looking forward to seeing their careers continue."
