Loper JV volleyball team hands straight-set loss to MCC

KEARNEY – The University of Nebraska Kearney Junior Varsity swept McCook Community College here Wednesday in straight sets 25-17, 25-22, and 25-19.

MCC goes to 11-7 on the season and begins Region IX play this weekend at home with a pair of games.

On Friday MCC hosts Trinidad State at 7 p.m. On Saturday Region IX foe Otero Junior College begins triangular play with a 1 p.m. against MCC. The Rattlers play Northeast Community College (Norfolk) at 3 p.m. with MCC taking on Northeast at 5 p.m.

On Wednesday night in Kearney, Jordan Jerome (sophomore, Rawlins, Wyo.) was credited with eight kills in the match along with two assist blocks and a solo block. Thaynara Isabela (freshman, São Paulo, Brazil) also had eight kills.

Amerika Jones (sophomore, Honolulu, Hawaii) had five kills and one assist block. Sophomore Janie Sommer (Maxwell) had six kills, two assist blocks and two service aces while leading MCC with 19 assists.

Mia Pena (sophomore, Greeley, Colo.) had three kills and one solo block.  Makayla Brown (freshman, Colorado Springs) had two kills and two assist blocks. Freshman Jaycee Widener (Maywood-Hayes Center) had one kill and two assist blocks.

McKenna Crews (freshman, Loveland, Colo.) and Kaylee Palmieri (sophomore, Gibbon) both had one service ace each.
