MCC Volleyball ends with loss to Eastern Wyoming

SCOTTSBLUFF – The Eastern Wyoming volleyball team brought the season to an end Thursday for McCook Community College in the consolation round of the Region IX Division 1 Tournament. The Lancers brought down MCC 25-21, 25-20, and 25-13.

"At the end of this tournament the only teams that leave on a high are the ones that end on a win," said MCC Coach Hayley Kobza.

Sophomore Jordan Jerome (Rawlins, Wyo.) closed out her MCC career with eight kills, seven digs and four assist blocks. Freshman Victoria Thomas (Houston, Texas) also had eight kills and seven digs. Freshman Thaynara Isabela (São Paulo, Brazil) was credited with five kills, nine digs, two aces, and one solo block.

Sophomore transfer Mia Pena (Greeley, Colo.) had four kills and freshman Makayla Brown, (Colorado Springs) had four assist blocks.

Sophomores Sophomore Janie Sommer (Maxwell) and Kaylee Palmieri (Gibbon) also suited up for the last time in an MCC uniform. Sommer led MCC with 21 assists and 14 digs to go along with two kills and one assist block. Palmieri had four digs.

Freshman McKenna Crews (Loveland, Colo.) had eight digs in the match.

"I want to thank my sophomores for teaching me valuable coaching lessons this season and thank these ladies for being so awesome," said Kobza.

MCC finishes with a 20-18 mark on the season. Eastern Wyoming moves on to Friday's consolation bracket and improves to 13-13 on the season.

"I am excited to work with our freshmen and build them into better volleyball players and athletes this off season," said Kobza.
