MCC Volleyball loses in five sets to Kansas Wesleyan JVs

SALINA, Kan.  – The McCook Community College volleyball team opened its five-game road trip Thursday with two straight set losses to the Kansas Wesleyan JVs before staging a strong comeback at Mabee Arena but fell to the Coyotes in five sets.

Wesleyan won 25-21, 25-22, 15-25, 22-25 and 17-15

"We missed too many serves to count and that hurt us when it came down to it," said MCC Coach Kobza said. "We have the foundation with each one of our players we just need to get the mindset."

Gabby Caskey (freshman, Ogallala) led MCC with 15 kills. She had 12 digs, three aces and one assist block. Victoria Thomas (sophomore, Houston, Texas) contributed 14 kills and had 10 digs, one ace and one assist block.

Freshman Fernanda Merancio (Lamar, Colo.) had eight kills, seven digs and one ace. Jisell Chumacero (sophomore, Eaton, Colo.) had eight kills, three digs three assist blocks and one ace. A'Dasia Porter (sophomore transfer, Glendale, Ariz.) had two kills and two assist blocks.

McKenna Crews (sophomore, Loveland, Colo.) paced MCC with 21 digs. Greta Bolognini (freshman, Bergamo Italy/ Parkview Christian, Lincoln, Neb.) had seven digs.

Alexis Pontine (freshman, Ignacio, Colo.) led MCC with 35 assists to go along with two kills, one ace and two assist blocks. Jessie Jerome (freshman, Rawlins, Wyo.) had five assists and one assist block.

Anna Williams, (redshirt freshman, Cheyenne, Wyo.) had one ace.

MCC will take a 2-2 record for the season into Texas with a pair of games Thursday and Friday at the North Lake Community College tournament in Dallas.

"We need to for sure be locked in with our serves the rest of the weekend," Kobza said.

MCC will take on Coastal Bend Friday at 2:30 p.m. followed by a 4:45 p.m. match against Southwestern Assemblies of God University JV. On Saturday MCC plays Amarillo CC at 12:15 p.m. and the hosts North Lake at 2:30 p.m.
