IRVING, Texas – The McCook Community College volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday to finish the weekend 3-1. MCC dropped the first match Saturday to Amarillo College in five sets then beat Dallas North Lake in four sets. "It was a good trip, but we still have some work to do," said MCC Coach Hayley Kobza. MCC improves to 5-3 on the season and will be home Friday and Saturday to host the 18-team, 37-game MCC Tournament in the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center. MCC will face No. 5 Butler Friday at 3 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. match against No. 1 Iowa Western Community College. Victoria Thomas (sophomore, Houston, Texas) put down a career-high 19 kills along with 14 digs and two assist blocks in the MCC loss. Gabby Caskey (freshman, Ogallala) had nine kills, 21 digs, two aces and two assist blocks. Fernanda Merancio (freshman, Lamar, Colo.) had six kills, three digs, two aces and two assist blocks. Jisell Chumacero (sophomore, Eaton, Colo.) had six kills, six assist blocks and two aces. Sophomore transfer A'Dasia Porter (Glendale, Ariz.) was credited with four kills and six assist blocks. McKenna Crews (sophomore, Loveland, Colo.) paced MCC on defense with 22 digs and an ace. Greta Bolognini (freshman, Bergamo Italy/ Parkview Christian, Lincoln, Neb.) had 12 digs and two aces. Jessie Jerome (freshman, Rawlins, Wyo.) dished out 48 assists to go along with 11 kills, five assist blocks, one solo block and 13 digs. The Badgers improve to 6-3 on the season. McCook CC 3, Dallas North Lake 1: The MCC team came back in the final match of the tournament to turn back the host team by the final of 25-16, 25-22, 20-25 and 25-18. Victoria Thomas led MCC on the attack with 11 kills, one assist block, one ace and 12 kills. Makayla Brown (sophomore, Colorado Springs) added 10 kills and three assist blocks. Gabby Caskey had six kills, 14 digs and an ace. Freshman Glorya Carr (Hugo, Colo.) had seven kills, two assist blocks and two aces. Gracen Tuttle (freshman, Ogallala) came up with four kills and two assist blocks. Alexis Pontine freshman, Ignacio, Colo.) led MCC in the passing game with 46 assists to go along with three kills, eight digs, four aces and a solo block. McKenna Crews had 15 digs and one ace. Greta Bolognini had nine digs and two aces. The Blazers fall to 1-6 on the season.
