Broncbusters snap MCC volleyball’s six-match win streak

GARDEN CITY, Kan. – The six-match win streak by the McCook Community College volleyball team came to an end Friday with a 3-0 loss to Garden City. The Broncbusters won 25-21, 25-22, 25-21.

"Lose and learn…," said MCC Coach Hayley Kobza. "We don't need to go back to the drawing board we just need to work on our mentality."

She pointed out that MCC had the lead late twice in the third set but surrendered critical points because of rotation errors.

"That shouldn't be happening at this level or at this point in the season," Kobza said.

Sophomore Victoria Thomas (Houston, Texas) had 12 kills to lead MCC along with seven assist blocks. Fernanda Merancio (freshman, Lamar, Colo.) had eight kills and Gabby Caskey (freshman, Ogallala) had four kills, one solo block, one assist block, two aces and 13 digs.

A'Dasia Porter (sophomore transfer, Glendale, Ariz.) had five assist blocks and two kills. Freshman Glorya Carr (Hugo, Colo.) had four assist blocks.

Alexis Pontine (freshman, Ignacio, Colo.) had 24 assists, one kill and one assist block.

Greta Bolognini (freshman, Bergamo Italy) had 12 digs and three aces. McKenna Crews (sophomore, Loveland, Colo.) had two aces.

The Broncbusters remain undefeated at home, 8-0 and go to 15-4 overall.

MCC goes to 11-6. The team will return home Tuesday to face North Platte at 7 p.m. in Nebraska Community College action. MCC is off to a 3-0 start in NCCAC. North Platte is 0-2 and 5-10 overall.

"The ladies get the weekend off, so back to the grind on Monday," Kobza said.

On Thursday MCC begins Region IX play with a road game at Scottsbluff against Western Nebraska and followed by a match Friday at Sterling, Colo. Against Northeastern Junior College.
