MCC’s A’Dasia Porter to play volleyball at Blue Mountain College

McCook Community College sophomore A'Dasia Porter has signed a letter of intent to continue her volleyball career at Blue Mountain College in Mississippi.

"I am so happy that A'Dasia will be headed to Blue Mountain with Coach Gann," said MCC Coach Hayley Kobza.

The Toppers went 34-3 and lost in the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament under Coach Reid Gann.

"Blue Mountain rose above my other offers because they already have a very developed and successful unit and I look forward to adding to their success," Porter said.

"Coach Gann has a very successful program and I know A'Dasia will be a great asset to the program," Kobza said. "With her going in the spring into this program they will be able to focus on her individual talent that she can contribute to the team in the fall."

She said she's looking forward to training hard in the spring and helping keep up the winning streak in the fall semester.

Porter, a 5-8 middle from Copper Canyon High School in Glendale, Ariz., played in 12 matches for MCC in her one season and had 19 kills and 27 blocks.

She picked up six blocks against Dodge City on Aug. 20 had a season-best four kills that same game. Porter tied her six blocks in a match at Amarillo College Aug. 27. She closed out the regular season Oct. 28 at home with four kills against Lamar Community College.

Porter transferred to McCook after a season at Lamar.

"I'd always heard amazing things about the coaching staff and how much they advocate for their athletes," Porter said. "I also witnessed the family aspect that the team had and wanted to be a part of it."

She said she will miss how involved and supporting the community is as well as the life-long friends she's made in her year at MCC.
