Honors keep coming for MCC’s Greta Bolognini

McCook Community College coach Hayley Kobza was notified that sophomore libero Greta Bolognini, Bergamo, Italy was selected the National Junior College Athletic Association Division 1 volleyball player of the week for Aug. 30-Sept 5.

On Monday, she was also named the Region IX South Defensive Player of the week, for the second straight week.

For the week of Sept. 4-10, MCC went 4-1 in the five matches with the sophomore libero picking up 100 digs, 24 assists and four service aces for the week. She has moved up to third in the nation with 354 digs so far this season and averages 5.8 digs per set, which leads Region IX and is seventh most in the nation.

Bolognini joins Northeastern Junior College's Annika Helf, who was named the south's offensive player of the week for the No. 6 Plainswomen, who are 16-2 on the season.

In the north, a pair of Casper College players garnered weekly awards with Amelia Piekut winning offensive honors and Nia Surman picking of defensive honors.
