
No. 20 Western Nebraska downs Lady Indians 3-1
SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – The McCook Community College volleyball team dropped its second match of the week to a top 20 team, losing at No. 20 Western Nebraska Saturday 3-1.
The Cougars won 25-17, 25-10, 22-25, 25-17.
"Western ran a great offense and we just didn't do well executing our defense," said MCC Coach Hayley Kobza.
Sophomore Rowan Tribelhorn (Yuma, Colo.) led MCC with 10 kills from the middle and four assist blocks. Freshman Ella Verts (Marshall, Mo.) had four total blocks and a kill.
Romina Martinez Castro (sophomore, Cochabamba, Bolivia) had seven kills, nine digs, one ace and one block. Freshman Ailynn Wright (Sterling, Colo.) was credited with seven kills, seven digs and a block.
"Shout out to Mia Cauffman for stepping into the libero role today," said Kobza of the freshman from Hershey.
Freshman Charlee Russick (Berthoud, Colo.) had two kills and two blocks while sophomore Caylin Barnett (Southwest High School) had 16 digs and one kill.
Megan Walker (freshman, Haxtun, Colo.) led MCC with 22 assists to go along with five digs, two blocks and two service aces.
With the win, Western Nebraska goes to 20-6 and 4-0 in Region IX South play.
MCC falls to 15-7 on the season and 1-2 in the south.
On Tuesday MCC travels to Columbus to play Central Community College in a Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference game. The Lady Raiders are 13-11 and 3-1 in the NCCAC.
"We need to get to work on earning our points for our next match," said Kobza.
The Lady Indians are home for three straight matches starting with a homecoming date with Otero College Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. against Trinidad State.
