
MCC’s Bothwell wins weekly defensive honor again
In back-to-back weeks, McCook Community College sophomore Cibeles Bothwell has been named the Region IX South Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Last week in matches against Southeast Community College at home and at Lamar, Colo., she tallied 26 and 24 digs respectively in a 3-0 win over Southeast and a 3-2 win over Lamar. She averaged 6.25 digs per set in those eight sets.
For the season, in 28 matches, the 5-5 libero from Spring, Texas, is leading the Region IX South with 473 digs, and 5.09 digs per set. Those totals rank 10th and 11th nationally. In addition, she has 26 service aces and 54 assists.
This is her third time this season she's been named the south region's top defensive player, also winning honors in Week 2 (Aug. 26-Sept. 1), Week 8, Oct. 17-13) and Week 9, Oct. 14-20.
The 19-8 Lady Indians have three matches this week starting at North Platte Tuesday then home Friday against No. 4 Northeastern Junior College (23-4) at 6 p.m. and Saturday at home against No. 17 Western Nebraska (23-7) at 2 p.m.
