Bio

Coach Troester joined the staff as a volunteer coach mid-way through the 2023 season.

As a high school coach over a 44-year career, he won more than 750 games at Republican Valley/Southwest High Schools and McCook. A Red Willow High School graduate who graduated from McCook Junior College and Kearney State College, he returned home to begin his teaching career in 1971 at Republican Valley.

His volleyball teams won seven state championships and finished second five times. His teams claimed 21 conference and 12 district championships. He retired in 2012 with a record of 709-157 victories. His basketball teams also logged a 337-206 record. Between 1986 and 2003, Troester’s teams made the state tournament 13 times with a 32-6 record in state tournament matches.

In 2013, Troester was inducted into the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame

He returned to coaching in 2014 at McCook Public Schools winning 56 more games over four years including a program best 24 wins in his final season in 2017.

His volleyball teams won 766 games and lost 233. Add his wins in basketball his teams finished with 1,103 wins and 439 losses -- 1,542 high school games coached.

Since 2001 he has taken area high school players to Hawaii for the Nokaoi Volleyball Showcase in Honolulu, Hawaii.

On Aug, 30, 2023, Troester was named an honorary coach for Volleyball Day in Nebraska at Lincoln’s Memorial. He was introduced on the court in front of the record-setting crowd of 92,003 – the largest attendance ever for a women’s sporting event.
