MCC golfers five shots back of Lancers after first round at La Junta

LA JUNTA, Colo. – The McCook Community College golfers shot a 1-over par round Thursday but trail Eastern Wyoming after the first round of the Otero Junior College tournament.

"On a day with perfect weather, we struggled putting but shot a respectable 1-over par team score," said MCC Coach Tyler Loop.

Eastern Wyoming led the Region IX field Thursday with a 276, MCC scored a 281 and the host Otero Rattlers are in third place with a 287.

"If we putt better tomorrow and stay patient, we should be able to give it a run to make up the five shots we are behind on Eastern Wyoming," Loop said.

Freshman Cade Cryer (Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa) fired a 3-under par 67 to lead MCC. He is in second place among individuals. Ethan Gough (sophomore, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa) shot an even round and his 70 is tied for fifth place.

Jordan Bingham (sophomore, South Jordan, Utah) shot a 1-over 71 and is tied for 12th place. Sophomore Brayden Dahl (Outer West Durban, South Africa) was 2-over for the round and is in a tie for 16th place.

Sophomores Payton Craw (McCook) Cayden Wynne (Lincoln) were both 8-over par for the day, shooting 78.

The two-day tournament concludes Friday.
